Friends of the Nickey Line - Vision Statement

 1 Management

  • To identify and improve access to and from the Nickey Line

  • To identify places to park for access

  • To make sure regular maintenance is carried out

  • To improve dog and litter bin provision

  • To monitor and improve the environment generally so that flora and fauna flourish

  • To improve seating arrangements

  • To improve disabled access

  • To provide a safer route for children to and from school

  • To consult with user groups and potential users and listen to their views, ie walkers, bikers, joggers, horse riders

2 Communication

  • To bring back the “e” as in Nickey Line

  • To update and reproduce the Nickey Line pamphlet

  • To develop a Nickey Line information website

  • To improve signage

  • To install interpretation/information boards at strategic points

3 Activities for Friends and Local Schools

  • Conduct a survey amongst users of the Line

  • Install bird/bat boxes

  • Photo competition

  • Develop a logo

  • Have guided walks

  • Have volunteer work parties

  • Hold a yearly event, e.g. Sponsored Walk, Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Dog Day, Bike Day, etc

 4 Community Links

  • Meet with local schools and other organisations that may be interested

  • To work with appropriate funding agencies

  • To liaise with local councils

  • Look for sponsorship for specific projects

  • Seek donations – financial, equipment, furniture (eg seats/benches), flora - to improve the environment of the Line

  • Document the history of the Nickey Line – make links with other community groups, eg Harpenden Local History Society, local rail historians
