Posts on our Facebook group on Laning of the Nickey Line caused much discussion in July but not necessarily a great deal of light at the time.
After discussions with a range of council personnel, we are pleased to say that Friends of the Nickey Line are not aware of any formal proposals currently to impose white line Laning on the Nickey Line in the short term to help handle future possible commuting volumes.
We are, however, aware there is some concern this option may be considered in the future and we have been asked to document our updated research and our views on this subject to inform future Line planning. You can find our report on our website at https://www.nickeyline.org/articles/
In summary, we would view any attempt to impose Active Travel England type white line ‘Laning’ measures on the Nickey Line as likely to be unreasonable and damaging to the Line and our users. It would not be effective in practice and would be a waste of taxpayers’ money. N.B. We would actively oppose any such proposal!
